Don’t forget your shoes!
Why having your shoes is a must at your fitting.
Nothing can throw off the look of an otherwise perfect gown like an incorrect hem length. The hem has to hit at just the right length to not only look great, but also so the bride can walk without tripping.
Many factors can affect the length of the gown including where the dress is sitting on the bride, how full the underskirt or crinoline is, whether the straps will be adjusted or the hips taken in, and also whether the hem lace is extremely scalloped. Weight gain or loss can also change the length of the gown, if just ever so slightly. Even your posture changes where the hem length falls.
With all these variables to take into account, it makes having the correct shoes with you at your fitting even that more important. If you don’t have the exact shoes, be sure to bring ones that are the same height and similar style to the shoes you plan to wear on your wedding day.
The bustle on your gown is also measured based on your altered hem length so unless you’re planning on going barefoot, it helps us both if you have the correct shoes. I want to make your hem absolutely perfect!
A frequently asked question is how the hem will be done if the bride plans on changing shoes throughout the day. Unless requested otherwise, I always hem the gown for what shoes will be worn at the ceremony as this is the most formal part of the wedding day and photos are often taken with the bride posed standing still.
